Dan Thompson is proud to be giving the following upcoming classes and workshops. More information is available from Dan or the presenting institutions. Dan Thompson Drawing and Painting the Portrait and Figure June 2 - 6, 2008 $625 Drawing and Painting the human head is massive undertaking. The complexity of the forms of the face must be built upon a sense of the body's pose and character. Gesture and its fundamental influence over construction will be addressed through a series of poses, beginning with figure and then focusing in on the head, rather than simply the face. Finally, the workshop will conclude with a longer pose. Facial features will be discussed. In this case, the combination of what is being observed with what has been introduced in terms of form structure and orientation should clarify things a great deal. Archetypes of the ears, nose, eyes, and mouth, as well as their relationships to each other will be discussed, while the objective of accurately recreating them in graphite, charcoal or paint is stressed. There is no prerequisite in terms of experience necessary to benefit from the material; all skill levels are welcome. Fall City Fine Art Studio is located in the foothills of the cascade mountains, just 35 minutes from Seattle, WA For more information call owner/director Cary Jurriaans: 425.222.9595 or 206.571.0442 www.fallcityfineart.org carysieb@centurytel.net ![]() Dan Thompson: June 9- 20, 2008 Six Day Figure Drawing Workshop Don't miss this opportunity to study with an internationally known artist. "Dan's knowledge is so vast and thorough that it would be hard to pin any one subject down. He is an inspiring teacher and his knowledge of structural anatomy and the application to visual/optical drawing is awesome (not a day goes by that I don't feel like I've learned something, by proxy, from him via one of our shared students). He is also a brilliant color theorist and would be terrific for a painting workshop as well as drawing." - Michael Grimaldi Artist, Instructor, Co- Founder, Grand Central Academy Linda@bacaa.org Summer Program in Classical Architecture & Landscape Painting in Italy Two Week Residency Sunday, June 15 – Monday, June 30; Lectures, Tours and Workshops 20 HSW AIA/CES LUs [Theory and Practice] Tour Leaders Victor Deupi , PhD, Arthur Ross Director of Education, ICA&CA; Dan Thompson , Painter and Instructor, Grand Central Academy of Art (GCA); Michael Grimaldi , Painter and Instructor, GCA In June of 2008 the ICA&CA with its Grand Central Academy of Art will be launching a two-week program on Classical Architecture and Landscape Painting in Italy, based in Subiaco, a dramatic hill town in the Campagna Roman east of the Eternal City between the ancient sites of Tivoli and Alba Fucens.
